Global Chic

We’ve all gone on vacation and purchased a piece of art, a beautiful rug or that bizarre exotic piece for the home that seemed pretty spectacular, only to get it home and stare in wonderment and ask “What was I thinking”?
The good news is, you can stop hauling those worldly pieces home and start shopping a bit more local as a hot trend for this year has been “Global Chic”. Start thinking anything from Africa to Milan to New York….the diversity and options are endless. Here is a list of ways to accomplish this:
• Exotic colorful patterns and motifs on throws or pillows
• Vivid wall colors such as burnt orange and browns with colorful artwork
• Find a great tree print or animal pattern wall decal
• Use wood accent tables
• Feature ethnic sculptures made from reclaimed wood
• Use exotic materials such as snakeskin and leather to add texture
They key in any trend is to not over-do it. Keep it simple and enjoy the worldly feel of your room. Make it simple enough that when the trend changes (that’s the downside of a trend) it will be simple and inexpensive to make changes. And your husband may appreciate it…..he’ll finally feel he has a place for that mounted moose head…..
