Spring Home Checklists

It’s official! And snow on the ground or not, March 20th marks the first day of Spring. We pack away our winter clothes, break out the sunscreen and fire up the bbq for a backyard get together to celebrate making it thru yet another Canadian Winter.
Spring maintenance is an important part of being a homeowner, and the changing of seasons is a great time to run thru a few things on the household checklist:

1. Check your deck for hazards:
• Look for water stains where the deck ties to the house
• Pressure wash the deck to remove moss and mold
2. Check your Air Conditioner:
• Disconnect power to the outside condenser and clear it of leaves and debris
• Clean or replace the filter if necessary
3. Test Alarms:
• Replace batteries in your smoke, carbon monoxide and security alarms
4. Examine Foundations
• Look for cracks, leaks or signs of moisture and repair where necessary
5. Check your Sump Pump
• Ensure pump is working properly prior to spring thaw setting in
6. Check Eavestroughs:
• Ensure they are clear of debris and joints line up so that melting snow will run away from the foundation of the house.

Maintenance of your home year round is important. Any signs of damage to your home over the winter should be properly dealt with. Call in a professional to assess damage if you are unsure. Guests will be thankful you have a sturdy deck to hold that BBQ!
