For the Love of Spring (Both months)

While we must all agree that this Winter was one for the Alberta records, we can’t help but be joyous in knowing the first day of Spring is just around the corner! And with it comes the rise in temperatures, the smell of bbq and a motorcycle or two breaking free from winter storage.
For those of us who are active, we can also enjoy the melting of ice and snow on the sidewalks and trails. We are very fortunate to have so many green spaces and incredible options at our fingertips:

• Did you know that our Edmonton River Valley is 22 times larger than New York’s Central Park??
• Edmonton has 275 km of shared use paths and sidewalks, 460 km of unpaved single track and unimproved trails and 117 km of signed only street oriented bicycle facilities (bicycle lanes or shared use)
• Parking near the entrance to Rabbit Hill Ski just off the Whitemud Freeway has gorgeous wooded trails heading both North and South.
• Want a great cycle route? See www.edmonton.ca/cycling
• In Alberta, bicycle helmets are mandatory for those under 18!!
• Glenora “Death Stairs”: 202 steps that head down the riverbank between Ezio Farone Park and the Edmonton River Valley.
• Sherwood Park has a 42 km Heritage Parkway Trail System.
• Elk Island National Park: 10 hiking trails for a total of 84 km.
• Strathcona Wilderness Centre: 12 km of trails for a great Spring hike.

Enjoy our 2 months of Spring and coming 3 months of Summer! Be proud to live in places with such incredible facilities for those of us who wish to enjoy them! And since most of them are free for your enjoyment, you can spend the money you save on a nice reward for your effort…..a healthy one that is……
