An Intelligent Thermostat???

We’ve all heard the term “Empty Nesters” or “Nesting for baby”, but a Nesting Thermostat?  Perhaps if you are an iPhone/iPad guru you are familiar with the term, and perhaps even lucky enough to own one.  A lot of homeowners still run the traditional finger sliding manual thermostat and more updated homes enjoy an electronic model.  Well meet the next generation of home heating.  “Nest” is not only cleanly designed, simple to use and innovative, it’s smart….really smart.  You can literally train it to get used to your lifestyle, how warm or cool you keep your home, what time you lower or raise the temperature.  It is claimed that if you teach it well, Nest can lower your heating and cooling costs by 20% and supposed to and 3 out of 4 people can install it in 30 minutes or less.
·         Developed by Tony Fadell who led the creation of 18 generations of iPod and 3 generations of iPhone
·         According to Natural Resources Canada, heating and cooling accounts for 64% of Canadian household energy bills
·         Only 11% of thermostats are programmed to save energy
·         99% of Nests have schedules that match their owners lives and schedules, therefore saving them money
·         An “Auto Away” setting turns it to an energy efficient temperature while you are away, and works in 90% of homes
·         The “Airwave” setting can reduce you’re A/C  runtime by up to 30%
·         Use the Nest Mobile App to connect to your thermostat from a smartphone
·         Changing the temperature by 1 degree can save you up to 5% on your next energy bill
·         You are provided with an energy report with a summary of your energy use and tips to help save you even more.
In today’s economy we could all use a little saving on our household bills, and what better way to do it than a streamlined and cool little technological gadget?  Wondering if your current system is compatible?  Check out nest.com and they have a section that will help with that too.
