Some of us spend those precious summer moments lounging on the deck or working in the garden….and for a lot of us we head out camping, golfing, to the lake, or even work, and that means time spent in TRAFFIC. Roadway construction is such a treat, isn’t it? Unfortunately because we have such a shortage of snow free months in which the crews can work, we tend to hit some form of road havoc around every corner. Here are a few helpful tips and sites to prepare for the pylons, workers and machinery:
• Until June 25th expect major delays on the Southbound QE2 between Edmonton and the Glen Park Road, south of Leduc. Construction between 9 am and 3 pm, 80km/hr thru the construction zone.

• Be prepared Sherwood Park, the Transit overflow parking west of the transit centre on Fir St is now closed in preparation for the beginning of the ever expanding Anthony Henday project. This is a 27 km project slated to have 6 and 8 lane divided hwys, 9 interchanges, 10 flyovers and 2 river bridges…..to the tune of some $1.81 billion. This Northeast leg of construction will wrap up in 2016.

It is also important to remember the most critical driving rule this summer…NEVER TEXT AND DRIVE. Not only is it extremely dangerous, it is illegal. While it may be tempting as you do 10km/hr thru a traffic jam, using handheld cellular devices is part of the Distracted Driving Legislation. To get the facts on this law, please visit:

Use common sense in the construction zones. Be courteous and cautious and pay attention to signs in the area. Workers there also have places to go and people to see….so start by keeping them, as well as fellow drivers, safe.
