Upgrading Your Childs Bed

Children are small for such a short time…..literally. Just as you restock their closet, they shoot up another 3 inches and have toes squashed into shoes. Bedroom furniture doesn’t escape the element of growth either, and deciding on the furniture required for the next stage can be overwhelming. Here are just a few of the various choices:
• Traditional: A bed frame ranging from single to typically double or queen for a kids room. The options of bed frames are endless….and you can also create your own such as a funky padded or themed headboard.
• Bunkbeds: This is great for a youth who is having sleepovers. It is also great for siblings who will be sharing a room. Bunkbeds come in a surprising array of bed sizes. The downsides of a bunk can be having to buy 2 sets of everything….mattresses, bedding, pillows, and be cautious if there is a ceiling fan in the room. There is also always a risk of falling from the top.
• Loft Bed: A loft bed can be a super cool upgrade! And a loft bed can typically grow with a child longer than a bunk bed. A major plus besides the cool factor is that it usually comes with built in storage and some even feature a desk space underneath which can not only save space, but ultimately cost of separate pieces. Keep in mind that most only come in single size, and some come with an extra bed for below, also meaning extra costs.
• Captains Bed: An ideal choice for a small space as it comes with a ton of storage space underneath. A downside may be that they are typically higher off the ground.
• Canopy Bed: This can be every little girls dream bed! But the canopy also provides an element of shelter, which is great for kids prone to night time anxiety sleeping on their own.
• Futon: A futon is not usually meant for full time sleep, as it does not provide the support a growing child needs. However, a futon can be an excellent addition to a room for sleeping extra kids or company, and is a couch for reading during the day.
• Convertible Bed: This is a bed that starts out as a crib, moves to a toddler bed and finally turns typically into a head and footboard for a double bed. This is a popular choice as it easily grows with your child, and you simply buy a new mattress for the double and new bedding as required. Keep in mind that kids are hard on furniture and if this is your avenue, buy good quality!
Kids come in so many shapes and sizes, and so do beds. The key to remember is to set a budget, figure out what bed will best suit your needs and go for quality.
