When it comes to garbage, Edmonton and Strathcona County are definitely at the top….. of waste management and recycling programs that is!!
Did you know that the Edmonton Waste Management Centre is North America’s largest collection of modern, sustainable waste processing and research facilities?
• It covers an area of 233 hectares and even houses a theatre and classrooms for training and research and is a popular place for tours.
• The ever popular Rundle Park is built on the original Edmonton City Dump!
• City staff will do free “reuse” presentations for Edmonton schools
In Strathcona County, residents are proud supporters of the “Green Routine” and the results have been incredible. In 2011 alone, almost 18,000 TONNES of material was kept from the landfills.
• 3960 tonnes of paper products
• 2975 tonnes of container recyclables
• 10, 635 tonnes of organic material
• 184 tonnes of Enviroservice hazardous waste
Taking care of our communities is something we should all participate in, and be proud of…..and with all those election signs popping up like dandelions, we’ll have lots of extra paper to recycle.
