Edmontonians might soon find their mailboxes empty, with the possibility of a strike looming for Canadian postal workers.
According to an article in yesterday's Edmonton Journal, "mail deliveries have dropped significantly the past five years. In 2005, the typical Canadian household received 377 pieces of addressed mail. In 2009, 334 pieces." They didn't mention how much more it's dropped since 2009.
I use the services of Canada Post a lot in my business. But I use the term "service" lightly. The prices continue to rise and the service continues to decline. Mix-ups, screw-ups, just plain lack of common sense - we've seen it all.
Have you ever paid Canada Post to have your mail redirected after a move? We get phone calls on a regular basis from clients who have purchased a new home and continue to receive the former owner's mail for months afterward, even though the former owner dutifully went and paid their money and filled out all the forms (sometimes more than once)!
It will be interesting to see how many people even notice there's a strike.
How do you think this will affect you? Or will it?
